Tuesday. My favorite day. Well, I do like Friday a lot. And Saturday. But anyhow, Tuesday is when I get social with Jason Middleton and Kim Foster on KGO’s After The Bell. Today, we talked about Facebook’s new Snapchat competitor Slingshot and World Cup fever on Twitter and Facebook.
Facebook called it an accident when Slingshot appeared in some international versions of the iTunes App Store and quickly disappeared, but if you think of what Snapchat is you realize this is a tongue-in-cheek way for Facebook to get media coverage. Strangely, I didn’t see many media outlets catch on to that. C’mon, you guys: That’s low-hanging fruit right there.
But what’s the Pong thing all about? Slingshot is like Snapchat where things disappear after a short period of time, however according to what we’re seeing you can’t see someone’s post until you send a post back. Do people have patience for that? We’ll see. I would say that it’s going to be tough to unseat Snapchat from it’s seat of prominence.
And then there’s the World Cup. From #WorldCup on Twitter and Facebook to a map of where the fans are to something called hashflags (little flag icons that appear within tweets when you type in a certain hashtag. All of this in about 3 minutes. Frankly, I’m not sure how we do it. Click on the SoundCloud box at the top of this post to listen for yourself.
We chat about the social medias most Tuesdays at 3:37 p.m. Central/1:37 p.m. Pacific. Here’s a link to the After The Bell blog for more.
Next week, try listening live. Or not. But if you do, here’s the link to the KGO 810 livestream.
Please let us know what you think. Thanks for listening.
