Spotting fake social media photos with Marcus Leshock on WGN Morning News

Today on WGN Morning News, Marcus Leshock featured me in a segment about how to spot fake social media photos.

It’s one of those little tricks that are so easy but not everyone knows about.

icy40-21.jpg1I’m sure you have seen the fake social media photos problem on countless occasions, from photos of Oklahoma tornadoes shared during the Illinois tornado outbreak to fake photos during Hurricane Sandy – even during the latest bitter cold invasion.

People don’t think there’s anything wrong with misrepresenting photos on social media channels, but they fail to recognize how fast those items are shared. In the wrong situation, this can actually be dangerous. This photo on the left is real, and using the trick I talked about with Marcus it was easy to figure that out.

Thanks so much for including me in your segment, Marcus. I was even recognized once on the street today.

Here’s a link to the full video. I hope you’ll let me know what you think in the comments or via Twitter.

And I highly recommend following Marcus and the WGN Morning News – both are great and quite entertaining on Twitter.
